Grilled Cheese Experiment

How do you make the best grilled cheese sandwich?

Grilled cheese is one of the best lunches for a weekend lunch. Normally, we grab some sandwich bread, shredded cheddar jack and a stick of butter and head to the griddle. Today, we decided to do a quick experiment to see if we could make a better grilled cheese sandwich. We tried different breads, cheeses and fats.

Here is a link to our experiment: https://youtu.be/fR4XAYEA1eE

We all had different opinions on what makes the perfect grilled cheese, but we did break down how we liked the different parts.

Bread

Regular White Bread – Classic grilled cheese, makes a good crust

Sourdough – Adds a little extra flavor to your sandwich, takes a little longer to brown

Jalapeno Cheddar – If you like jalapenos this is awesome, makes a good crust

Whole Wheat Bread – Tastes like the school sandwich, made an okay crust

Cheese

Cheddar Jack Cheese – Melts well, tastes good

American Cheese – Melts really good, tastes good

Port Wine Derby – Did not melt as well as other cheeses, tasted good

Swiss – Melts good, tasted pretty good

Blueberry Vanilla Goat Cheese – Didn’t melt, tasted weird (dad liked this with jalapeno cheddar bread)

Fat (for frying)

Butter – Made a good crust, tasted good

Olive Oil – Made a good crust, tasted good

Mayonnaise – Didn’t crisp up as well as butter, tasted okay

Miracle Whip – Didn’t crisp up as well as butter, tasted too sweet

Sour Cream – Stuck to the grill so the crispy part pulled off the bread, tasted okay
